Shake My Hand
Lyrics and Music: Kevin Snyder
Kevin’s song Shake My Hand came out of a Songs On The Vine assignment to write “a murder song.” Inspired by a TV series, the song is also a not-so-subtle social commentary.
Shake my hand ‘cuz I’m the man that shot him dead
I took my gun and just because put a bullet in his head
I know I’ll burn in hell
For this mortal sin
Shake my hand ‘cuz I’m the man that did him in
She was walking home one night from the corner store
He raped her and he stabbed her then she was no more
To the D.A. his friends all said
That he was somewhere else
Shake my hand ‘cuz I took him out all by myself
He was living proof that evil walks the earth
Is 20 bucks and change what a life is worth?
When the justice system failed
He heard my magnum sound
Shake my hand ‘cuz I’m the man that put him down
Now I’m hiding from the law that wants to take me in
Vigilante justice is considered fringe
But I stand by what I did
And that’s what I’m all about
Shake my hand ‘cuz I’m the man that took him out
I knew that they would catch me, just a matter of time
A jury of my peers found me guilty of the crime
And when that pellet drops
I won’t be here for you
To shake my hand for doing what I had to do
Shake my hand ‘cuz I’m the man that shot him dead
